As an Impressionist/Realist painter, Brian has been a regular exhibitor in New England’s fine art community since 2002 and a member of the Oil Painters of America, the Copley Society of Art (CA), and the Rockport Art Association, three of the most prestigious art associations in the United States. His work, celebrated for unique perspectives of cityscapes and the natural world, has been seen in countless exhibitions, featured in a range of publications, garnered numerous awards, exhibited in multiple museums, and purchased for a variety of private and corporate collections.
Brian’s Postmodern work is a blend of his disciplines in illustration, design, and painting. This contemporary mixed media work at times adheres to classic painterly techniques, but often manifests as complex mixed media illustrative compositions, highlighted with text elements, photography, writing, found objects, digital painting, and similar experimental homogenization. He is a member of the National Association of Digital Artists and his innovative work has been seen across a spectrum of print and online media and galleries.
Experienced in gallery ownership, Brian opened the Canvas Alley Gallery in Reading, Massachusetts in 2004 and in 2015 he and his wife opened Honeyhole in Exeter, New Hampshire, a combination fine art and upcycled antiques gallery. After relocating to Maine in 2022, Brian has recently completed the creation of Brian Dubina Studio & Gallery, two floors of work and display space housed in a 30x40’ barn he has lovingly restored by hand.
Brian holds a BFA in illustration from Syracuse University and has completed postgraduate work in design at Montserrat College of Art and in painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Brian is a Certified welder and enjoys found-metal sculpting, working with wood and cement, and truffling for pigments for hand-making paints, stains, and patinas. He moonlights in the yard as a stonemason, landscape gardener, and dog wrangler. He is currently exploring a fresh love of bold color through acrylics and tinkering on his illustrated children’s novel.
